If a face, logo, or product sits off center, the platform's automatic crop can cut through the part that matters. JPEG cannot store a transparent corner. If a destination rejects transparency or expects an opaque square, open more options and fill the corners with white or a custom color before downloading the PNG. How do I crop a picture into a circle for free?

Will the background outside the circle be transparent?

Yes, transparent corners are the default and the PNG alpha channel preserves them. JPEG cannot store transparency. If a destination needs an opaque image, choose white or a custom corner color in more options, then convert that result to JPG only if the file format is required.

What size should a round profile picture be?

512 by 512 pixels is a practical general default, but each platform can resize uploads and change its requirements. Use the size that the destination currently asks for. Keeping the subject away from the very edge also leaves room for platform rings and overlays.

Can I add a border ring around the circle?

Yes. Open more options, set the border width in output pixels, and choose its color. The ring is drawn inside the image boundary, so none of its stroke is cut off in the downloaded PNG.

Does circle cropping reduce image quality?

The crop is rendered from the original decoded pixels at the output size you choose, never from the scaled editor preview. Choosing fewer output pixels removes detail, and choosing more pixels than the selected source area contains cannot invent detail, but repositioning and zooming do not add an extra lossy compression pass.
